July Letter from the Editor

In case you missed it, I took a little self-care retreat for the past 2 weeks.

A lot of it was spent working, but I also got to do some things that were just for me. As a woman of color,  I'm constantly reminded of all the ways society wants to devalue my existence. Mental overload from this and the day-to-day is just too real sometimes, so finding time to enjoy ME has been the best way to recharge. Part of that meant going dark (silent) on Femme Nouveau social media.

I created Femme Nouveau as a way to document my self-discovery, and it has evolved to become so much more. It's a diverse community of women learning how to master the art of living. As a magazine, Femme Nouveau shares real-life stories from women across the world. I also realized that having a platform like this is also a form of healing, a form of self-care. It's us showing us how we make it through life. Truly, a village and a tribe

Now that my self-care retreat comes to an end and July being Minority Health Month, it's only right to share the way I've practiced self-care: twerrrrrrrrk. *insert Tina twerk*. Jk. But music and dancing are my favorite ways to let loose. Little Dragon + Flying Lotus concert at the Hollywood Bowl and SoulNic 2018 got my life, yall. I'll share about it on the FMNV IG story this week, so make sure you follow @FMNV.co on Instagram to watch.

So Femmes, what are your favorite ways to self-care? Comment below!

We decided to go on the day of the show- I love the Hollywood Bowl bc even the cheapest seats are good seats. Sound is incredible and you can bring your own food and drinks. www.hollywoodbowl.com
