DIY Olympics Themed Baby Shower - Go For Gold

Being pregnant last year gave me the chance to do something that I love but hadn’t done in forever—party plan! When planning my baby shower, I wanted to choose a theme that I hadn’t seen done a million times over. But the more unique the idea, the less I had resources for inspo.

We decided on an Olympics theme baby shower, since our baby boy would be born in the same year as the Tokyo Olympics. Of course COVID19 came along and cancelled the games this year, but I’m still happy with the way our shower turned out. I was able to find some ideas from Pinterest for decorations as well as game ideas. We chose some Minute-to-Win-It style games rather than the traditional baby shower games that we’ve all played at every shower. I did, however, still do the Guess the Belly Size game, because my belly was remarkable! Lol. For the “Don’t Say Baby” game, I used gold medals instead of traditional clothespins to tay on theme.

The hardest thing to locate were pillars, but I knew finding them would be crucial to tying the theme together. On a whim, I was able to find these awesome cardboard pillars using LetGo for only $10! I ended up going to the 99 cents store to find streamers in Olympic colors, as well as some tabletop games to use as part of the decor. In terms of the candy table, I went to the 99 Cents Store and a few other dollar stores and just bought bags of candy that I then sorted by color. Using flower vases from home, a few stands, candy bags and candy scooper from the Dollar Tree, I created a really cute candy table. The only splurge was on the cupcakes, made by a friend of mine who was able to create an Olympic fondant print on top of the frosting.

I was able to keep costs of the shower pretty low by purchasing almost everything from the Dollar Tree or the 99 Cents Store. I also got balloons from a local Hispanic party store rather than Party City because I knew it would be less expensive. For any of the other items, you can find all the links to purchase below!
